Welcome to Hedgehogs
In Hedgehogs class this year, we will be learning about a variety of topics through our foundation subjects. In geography this year, the children will be looking at ‘Would the children rather live in a hot or cold place’. Along with, ‘Why is our world wonderful’ and finishing off with ‘What’s it like to live by the coat?’ Within our History units we will be looking at: ‘How do we learn to fly’, ‘How different was school in the past’ and finishing the History with ‘What is a monarch?’. In addition to Geography and History, we will also be exploring different units in Art, Design and Technology, Religious Education and Music. During the year, we will have PE lessons taught by myself and sessions taught by EPC (Essex Professional Coaching).
In our daily maths lessons, we use the mastering number programme and White Rose maths which aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2.
In Hedgehogs, we want to create a lifelong love of reading. We have discreet phonics and reading lessons throughout the week, using the Little Wandle scheme.
We use growth mindset and the fish philosophy to make our classroom a positive, fun and safe place to learn. We have a cosy book corner which can be used as a quiet place to read independently or to share a book with a friend.
In Hedgehogs this year, we will be joined by Mrs Peters and Mrs Barratt.
